buying your first home - what you should know

5 Ways To Make Your New Construction Home Feel Like Home

Purchasing a new home is expensive, but finally you will have a new home that has never been lived in before. That's a great feeling, but when you first move in, it's probably going to feel a little empty and not like a cozy place you can call your own. However, you already spent a good deal of money on the purchase of your home, so how can you fill it without spending a fortune? Here are five ways to make your new construction home feel like home without spending too much:

  1. Start With the Bathroom: Buy all the big things for the bathroom. For example, towels, bath mats, wash cloths, and decor. This gives you the chance to start out small so it won't cost to much to spruce up the room completely. Besides, this is the room that you begin and end your day, so it's a great way to get your place to start to feel like home. Choose colors that make you feel cozy and ready to begin your day in your new home.
  2. Flowers: Filling your new home with flowers in each room is going to make your home feel more inviting for both yourself and your guests. You can choose fresh flowers if you'd like, but it may be best to invest in faux flowers and plants that you can keep around for a long time to come. Faux flowers and plants will help continue to keep the space well tied together while you spend the next year or so filling it up.
  3. Pull Out the Pictures: All the pictures of your family and friends should be pulled out and hung on the walls, placed on shelves, and put on your bedside table. Doing this is going to make the space feel more like your own since you will be surrounded by the people that you love and care for. On top of this, it will make the walls feel less bare.
  4. Dress the Bed: You don't have to decorate your entire bedroom right away to start making it feel like home. Instead, simply dress up your bed with cozy pillows and blankets. Get a comforter set that you love and this will make the place where you fall asleep and wake up every morning feel just right.
  5. Area Rugs: When you move into your new home, the floor space may feel a bit bare, as well. This can make the space feel cold and unwelcoming. This is why you should place area rugs in the dining room, living room, and bedroom. You can even consider hall rugs for hallways. Doing this is going to help tie the space together and make it feel less bare as well.

When you do these five things for your new construction home upon moving in, you can begin to feel comfortable in the space right away.
