buying your first home - what you should know

Buying A Home? Look Out For These Warning Signs

Do you think you've found a home you want to purchase and are ready to make an offer? If so, it will help to know the following warning signs that maybe you should find another home.

You See A Lot of Local Listings

It's important to pay attention to the area where the home is being sold and look at the surrounding homes in the area. If this part of town has a lot of homes for sale in the same area, then there may be a problem with the area that is causing other people to sell. You'll want to look out as to why people are moving out and if it is something that you can deal with.

You See School Population Decreasing

It is worth taking a look at the local school district and if the schools are increasing or decreasing in attendance. A school that is on the rise because it's doing good is going to have families move into the area so that they can attend the school. Meanwhile, the opposite is true if school attendance numbers are going down. This could mean that people are moving out of the area for reasons you may not be aware of.

You See That The Home Has Surrounding Property Problems

The home itself may seem nice when you look at it in a bubble, but there can be surrounding property that cause problems with the property. For example, is the home near a busy commercial area? This could be bringing people to the area in ways that you do not like. If the home is near commercial property, it's always worth doing a bit of research to determine if you want to live near that property.

However, you should also pay attention to empty commercial spaces in the area. Are businesses struggling to stay open? Do the empty businesses bring in crime to the areas? This can spill over to the residential area, depending on how close you live to it.

You See Plenty Of Property That Is Not Maintained

While it may seem strange to judge the area based on other people's property, it can tell a story about what kind of people live around the home. Do you want to live in an area where everyone has pride in their home and is willing to spend the money to get the job done? If all you see around the home you want is rundown homes, then you could be looking at an area with low income that struggles to maintain their home.
